Definition
Conflict management includes various strategies and measures that enable a systematic approach to conflicts. In this process, seemingly insoluble points of contention are to be defused. By dealing with personal and professional disagreements, the escalation of a conflict can be prevented and constructive solutions can be found. The content of workplace conflict management is to identify, manage and resolve conflicts.
Once the conflict actors have moved away from the factual level, mediation, i.e. mediation by uninvolved third parties, becomes necessary. Operational conflict management attempts to regulate the handling of conflicts in the long term by establishing appropriate positions within the company (e.g. mobbing representative or equal opportunities representative).
